Google Income Soars

Google reported impressive fourth-quarter results yesterday as it posted revenue of $1.03 billion, more than double the $512.2 million of a year ago.

Also, revenue increased 28 percent over the third-quarter total. The search firm also said it had net income of $204.1 million, compared with $27.3 million in the fourth quarter last year.

"Google had an exceptional quarter," CEO Eric Schmidt said. "Revenue and profits increased significantly, our execution was solid across the company and most importantly, our relationship with our users, partners and advertisers became even stronger."

Revenue was almost evenly split between Google's operations and its AdSense partnership program. Google-owned sites generated $530 million, 51 percent of total revenue, and an increase of 118 percent over fourth-quarter 2003. The AdSense program generated $490 million, or 48 percent of total revenue, up 92 percent over last year.
