Google Blog Search increases 168 percent in market share

Data from Internet monitor Hitwise shows Google Blog Search has surpassed Technorati in market share of visits for the week ending Dec. 23, 2006.

Google put a link to Blog Search on the Google News home page, which resulted in a 168 percent increase in market share for Google Blog Search over a two-week period (week ending Oct. 14 versus week ending Oct. 28).

About 60 percent of Google Blog Search's traffic comes from Google News, up from about 1 percent before the change.

For the week ending Dec. 23, visits to Google Blog Search increased 14 percent, but the percentage of upstream traffic from Google News dropped.

Google Blog Search has attracted a younger audience than Technorati. Only 10 percent of visitors to Technorati were in the 18 to 24 group, while 34 percent of visitors to Google Blog Search reached that tech-savvy group.

Both sites skew male, with 55 percent of Technorati visitors and 61 percent of visitors to Google Blog Search.
