Goodmail expands e-mail certification for UK ESPs

Goodmail Systems Inc. is now selling its authentication service CertifiedEmail through reseller agreements with 15 e-mail service providers in the United Kingdom, including Acxiom Digital, Emailvision and TMNMedia.

The deal marks Goodmail's first expansion beyond U.S. and Canadian shores.

"We think that the need for certified e-mail is as universal as the need for e-mail marketing," said David Atlas, vice president of marketing at Goodmail, Mountain View, CA. "European e-mail marketing is experiencing enormous growth, and the UK represents 30 percent of that growth. It's a major opportunity for us to create a UK base."

With this expansion, commercial and nonprofit senders with e-mail practices that meet Goodmail's accreditation standards will be able to send CertifiedEmails into the United Kingdom consumer e-mail domains through supporting mailbox providers AOL and Yahoo.

The e-mail service providers that have signed up to offer CertifiedEmail mailing capability include Acxiom Digital, CheetahMail, Communicator Corp., dotMailer, e-Dialog, Emailreaction, Emailvision, Emailbureau, Lyris, MailAgent, Neolane, Responsys, Spinnakerpro.com Silverpop and TMNMedia.

As far as e-mail marketing in the United Kingdom goes, Mr. Atlas said that Europeans relate differently to it than consumers in the United States.

"They seem to be more accepting of e-mail marketing," he said, adding that they "have an even higher concern over the issue of trust and phishing."
