Goldstein Chosen as 2005 List LeaderThe Direct Marketing Association's List and Database Council yesterday named Deb Goldstein, the president of IDG List Services, as the 2005 List Leader of the Year.
Goldstein will receive the award at an Aug. 3 dinner in her honor at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York. The DMA's List Vision 2005 conference takes place Aug. 4 at the same location.
Before joining IDG in 1986 as list manager, Goldstein was list manager and telemarketing sales manager at Morgan-Grampian Publishing Co. She has been president of IDG List Services, a division of International Data Group, since 1991. She launched IDG's list brokerage division in 1995 and the firm's response-based e-mail rental program the next year. IDG List Services currently manages 80 postal and e-mail lists and has more than 65 brokerage clients.
Goldstein is a member of the DMA's List and Database Council and is on the board of directors of the List Leaders Group.
"I could not be more pleased and thrilled to be honored in this way," Goldstein said of the award. "It's really an amazing honor that's bestowed by our wonderful industry."
Though she hasn't been on the board of the List and Database Council, she has been active for at least 10 years and stressed the importance of involvement.
"You have to do what you can within the industry, the list community and the DMA to come up with smart and creative solutions to keep our industry vital," she said. "You have to be an active participator, and you can't dwell on the difficulties of the challenges -- you have to find solutions."
Last year's List Leader, Donald Mokrynski, chairman of Mokrynskidirect, Hackensack, NJ, will present the award to Goldstein. The award is given to a list professional with at least 10 years in the industry. The recipient must be active in one or more of these list-related areas: ethics, education, list practices and standards, privacy issues, postal reform, communication or environmental concerns.
