Glamour Reports Higher First-Half Circulation

Condé Nast Publications' Glamour magazine reports increased circulation for the first half of the year.


The monthly women's magazine claims total average paid circulation of 2,361,637 copies per issue for the first half of 2004. This is up 5.2 percent, or 117,625 copies per issue, from the same six-month period last year.


Glamour's newsstand single-copy sales in the first half of 2004 totaled 972,769 copies, up 9.2 percent from the year-ago period.


Glamour moves from ninth place to sixth among the top 545 titles selling on newsstands. Cosmopolitan sells 2 million at newsstands monthly, making it No. 1.


Also, Glamour's total subscriptions for the first half of the year rose 2.6 percent to 1,388,868 copies per issue. This was an increase of 35,452 copies per issue from the same six months in 2003.


The New York publisher claimed it ended the first half of this year 7.3 percent over the rate base -- circulation guaranteed to advertisers -- equating to an average bonus circulation of 161,637 copies per issue.


The magazine said this represented the largest bonus circulation in its competitive set, which includes Cosmopolitan, InStyle, Marie Claire, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Allure, Elle, Lucky and Self.
