GeoTrust Inc., a provider of second-generation Internet trust services, named The Crossbow Group as its agency of record.

Selected without a review, Crossbow's appointment coincides with a fresh round of funding received by GeoTrust. Crossbow, Westport, CT, is the first agency for GeoTrust, which previously used inhouse resources.

"The mandate is to rapidly increase awareness of and interest in the company [and] redesign look and feel, and create a clean, concise, compelling message that resonates with the target market," said Jay Bower, president/CEO of Crossbow.

"In phase two," Bower said, the agency will "develop lead-generation infrastructure within budget and demographic parameters."

GeoTrust, Wellesley, MA, offers secure e-commerce transactions, identity verification and authentication services to Web hosting companies, Internet service providers and IT executives in corporations. IBM Corp. is a client.

GeoTrust joins a Crossbow client roster that includes Staples, Scholastic, Interact Commerce and The First Years. The agency was founded in 1984.

Services offered to GeoTrust by Crossbow include collateral design and development, brochures, consulting and trade show booth experience.

Crossbow also will help in product or service naming, Web site redesign and development, and lead generation via e-mail, mail, print and Webcasts.

Another task is messaging development, including positioning, differentiation and value proposition.

"In the post-9/11 world, security and trust are the No. 1 priority for IT organizations and, indeed, enterprises everywhere," he said.
