Gardener's Supply Buys Chunk of Fellow Cataloger Dutch Gardens

Gardener's Supply Co., a direct and Internet marketer of gardening accessories, has bought majority ownership of Dutch Gardens, a consumer catalog of flowering Dutch bulbs and perennials.

Dutch Gardens will be run as a joint venture with International Garden Products, the seller of the catalog. International Garden will supply the joint venture with flowering bulbs from the Netherlands.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Langeveld Bulbs, the world's largest wholesaler of Dutch bulbs and a subsidiary of International Garden Products, founded Dutch Gardens in 1965.

Gardener's Supply was founded in 1983. Based in Burlington, VT, it has 250 staff members. The cataloger sells seed-starting furniture, greenhouses, flower supports and nature- and garden-inspired holiday gifts.

A popular program of Gardener's Supply is the neighborhood buying clubs. Neighbors place bulk orders for volume pricing.
