Galaxy Latin America which provides satellite television to 27 markets in the region, continues to expand programming, adding The Weather Channel's Latin American arm to its offering late last month.

The Weather Channel has two language-specific networks aimed at the hemisphere -- El Canal del Tiempo and The Weather Channel-Brasil. It also has two Web sites, one in Spanish, the other in Portuguese.

In another deal, Galaxy reached an agreement with Open TV for use of its technology that will give subscribers interactive TV services, including electronic program guides, games and banking applications.

When it announced the agreement, which is to be implemented in the second half of the year, Galaxy issued a statement calling the launch "the first step in a comprehensive interactive strategy."

And earlier this spring, Galaxy renewed its contract with the National Football League to beam games from Europe during the spring season and then roll out the fall season in September. Galaxy will broadcast 180 games in all.
