Fuel Surcharge Increases Take Effect

FedEx, Airborne Express and UPS implemented higher fuel surcharges yesterday.

FedEx Corp. raised its fuel surcharge from 4 percent to 4.5 percent and ground shipments from 1.25 percent to 1.5 percent. Airborne raised its surcharge from 4.3 percent to 5.1 percent and ground shipments from 1.3 percent to 1.8 percent. United Parcel Service Inc.'s fuel surcharge is now 1.5 percent.

Major U.S. airlines also have raised fuel surcharges on their cargo flights.

Carriers said the surcharge increases result from a spike in oil prices.
