FTC Distributes No-Call List to 5,000

The Federal Trade Commission said yesterday that it had distributed the national no-call registry to 5,000 telemarketers since the list became available for download Sept. 2.

Telemarketers must acquire the list by Oct. 1 to be in compliance. After that date, the FTC is expected to begin taking consumer complaints and citing companies for violations.

More than 50 million telephone numbers are now registered for the list, the FTC said. However, as of the Aug. 31 deadline for consumers to be included on the list that will be enforced starting Oct. 1., 48.4 million numbers had been registered.

Consumers who registered after the Aug. 31 deadline must wait 90 days before their numbers are included on the registry.
