Interpublic Group has named Matt Freeman CEO of MediaBrands Ventures. He is charged with growing the network's portfolio of digital and specialized businesses, as well as collaborating with the media management agencies UM and Initiative. In addition, Freeman will lead global expansion of the brand.

Freeman will lead business units including search and social media firm Reprise Media; audience demand platform Cadreon; mobile marketing company Ansible; and Geomentum, a company focused on local marketing.

Freeman joins MediaBrands from Betawave, a start-up where he also served as CEO. Prior to that, Freeman worked as CEO of Omnicom's Tribal DDB Worldwide.

IPG created MediaBrands in 2008, as the holding company looked to consolidate its media business under one umbrella.

An IPG representative could not be reached immediately for comment.
