Football stadiums in Singapore will soon have state-of-the-art communications facilities, similar to those deployed at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany, albeit on a smaller scale.

The Football Association of Singapore said yesterday that it plans to install a communications system from Avaya Inc., a business communications applications systems and services provider, and the Official Convergence Communication provider for the FIFA World Cup 2006.

Basking Ridge, NH-based Avaya and its business partner, Singapore-based Jebsen & Jessen Communications will equip FAS with a communications system in a phased approach that will benefit the organization, the fans and the media.

The system, while on a smaller scale, is similar to the implementation at the FIFA World Cup in Germany, which had 519,385 connections to the Avaya network, and benefited 15,000 media outlets from around the world.

The new seamless converged communication systems will include a database system to enable FAS to disseminate relevant information and match news to its fans promptly. With this new database, FAS  will be better able to understand the demographics of its fans and devise marketing campaigns in sync with the fans' profile.

This database system will be available to respective FAS personnel to update relevant information.

A sponsor database also will be implemented, allowing FAS to send out the latest news, upcoming events and invitations to its sponsors via e-mail/phone call at a fraction of the time it once took.

In addition, an IP communications systems provided by Avaya will help FAS achieve its goal to develop local football.
