First Data Plans Electronic Statement System

First Data Corp. plans to launch an electronic statement presentment and payment system for credit card issuers in April that will let their customers view monthly statements and pay their bills online.

Called First Data Statement Look, the system also will let card issuers deliver information such as current account activity and previous months' statements. Issuers can present the information using First Data's hosting service or their own Web sites, using banner ads and cross-selling to enhance their brands. The service includes e-mail options that will let issuers contact cardholders.

The service will let card issuers offer multiple payment options, including through an existing Web site or using Western Union's MoneyZap service. Cardholders will have the option of eliminating paper bills by receiving statements electronically.
