Fingerhut Buys Stake in Empire Direct

Diversified direct marketing company Fingerhut Cos. Inc., Minneapolis, yesterday said it acquired a 28-percent interest in Empire Direct, a Hispanic direct marketing company based in the New York area. Empire Direct's businesses include EmpireCard, an issuer of MasterCard credit cards; Direct Furniture, a which sells furniture through telemarketing and in-home consultations; and the Empire Club general merchandise catalog.


The agreement allows Fingerhut to increase its stake to a majority interest. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
