FedEx Pilots Ratify Contract
Federal Express Corp. and the FedEx Pilots Association, Memphis, announced late last week that the union's membership has ratified its five-year collective bargaining agreement, which takes effect on May 31.FPA members, who threatened to strike last year during the critical holiday season but settled on a 60-day moratorium that precluded this possibility, received a contract Jan. 4 and had 30 days to vote on it.
The contract gives the pilots a 17 percent average wage increase over five years and a 3.4 percent average annual increase. Also, pilots receive enhanced retirement benefits and direct input on scheduling issues The five-year contract also prevents a labor strike anytime during that time period.
"The vote affirms our pilots' commitment to serving our customers," said Ted Weise, FedEx president/CEO in a statement. "This contract keeps our pilots' compensation package competitive with peers at the major airlines, and it recognizes the vital contributions they provide in maintaining FedEx's leadership position in our industry."
