FDIC to Host Privacy Forum
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. will host a forum tomorrow on consumer privacy in the financial services industry. Three panels will include representatives from consumer groups, regulatory agencies, banks and other concerned parties. They will discuss the privacy provisions of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, scheduled to take effect in November, and other state and federal initiatives concerning the privacy of personal financial information. The forum also will feature discussions of the concerns consumers might have about recent reports of questionable trade practices by financial institutions.The forum, which will take place in Arlington, VA, is scheduled as the March 31 deadline looms for public comment on regulators' interpretation of the privacy provisions of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.
