ExciteAtHome Offers Free Hosting

A new service from ExciteAtHome Corp. will enable small merchants to set up online stores at no cost. The move is designed to help the company compete with smaller online firms that offer free hosting.

ExciteAtHome, Redwood City, CA, has been charging merchants $75 to $100 per month plus a commission on goods for hosting services. There will be no charge for the new service, called Freetailer, unless merchants exceed certain storage or bandwidth levels. The company, which announced Freetailer yesterday, will continue to offer a fee-based service geared toward larger retailers.
