Excite Debuts Invitation Service, Builds Database

Internet portal and service provider Excite@Home on Monday introduced a service designed to help people plan social events. Called Excite Invite, it lets consumers send personalized invitations to parties and other happenings, track RSVPs and read comments from invitees.

Excite, Redwood City, CA, asks people who want to use the service to register by giving their name, address, e-mail address, birth date and gender. It then puts those users on several unrelated e-mail lists unless they opt out.

Invitees will get an e-mailed link to the host's Excite Invite page. Event hosts will be able to select borders, animated characters and personal messages in the invitation and the outbound e-mail. The service can be found at invite.excite.com.
