Essential.com to Supply Electricity in Maryland

Essential.com, Burlington, MA, an energy and communications marketplace, has received licensing approval from the Maryland Public Service Commission to supply electricity to small businesses and households in the state.

Small businesses and residents in Maryland can shop for long-distance services and Internet access on Essential.com, selecting from a variety of brand-name suppliers, with online billing and payment. But now, customers can also sign up to receive their heating oil, propane and local phone service through the site.

"The approval of the Public Service Commission for Essential.com to supply electricity in Maryland is good news for the power customers in the state," said Paul R. Lewis, president/CEO of Essential.com. "Essential.com's intention is to expand the geographic areas in which we offer [our] services, and hope to provide the small businesses and households of Maryland with a competitive electricity choice some time in the future."
