Environmental Defense Spins Off LocusPocus

Environmental Defense, a New York-based advocacy group, yesterday announced the launch of LocusPocus, a for-profit spinoff.

LocusPocus, www.locuspocus.com, will help member organizations recruit, engage and retain members. In addition to established services, LocusPocus will provide two new services: GetActive, which helps users contact political and corporate leaders by fax or e-mail with the click of a mouse; and BeLocal, which gives clients the information and technology they need to publish and syndicate localized content.

"We are delighted to help launch this private-sector initiative for the public interest," said Fred Krupp, Environmental Defense executive director. "This new relationship with LocusPocus will result in significant cost savings for our online advocacy and member outreach programs. It will also help other organizations make their mark on the Internet."

Environmental Defense will hold a minority ownership interest in LocusPocus.
