EMusic Offers Subscription Service

Online music company EMusic said yesterday that it plans to start a service that will allow people to download an unlimited number of songs and albums from its catalog for a monthly fee.

EMusic's online catalog will feature artists such as Elvis Costello, Tom Waits and Willie Nelson, among others. It has typically focused on offering songs by acts on smaller, independent labels.

EMusic's subscription service hopes to rival the success of MP3.com, which started a classical-music subscription service in May and has since expanded into other genres.
