EBay Gets Artsy With Launch of Premier

EBay Inc., San Jose, CA, today launched its Premier channel, an auction site for art, antiques and rare collectibles.

Premier is an enhanced version of the company's previous art channel, called Great Collections, because it now includes an art database that offers historical data on millions of artworks, according to the firm. Help menus, category-specific content and scheduled theme sales also have been added.

The site also offers its Premier Guarantee program, which promises buyers authenticity of the items they purchase. In the event of an unresolved dispute about authenticity between the eBay Premier buyer and seller, the site will reimburse the buyer for items up to $50,000.

The company plans to promote Premier with various Internet ads as well as promos at art trade shows and ads in art-oriented print publications.
