EBay Adds UPS Shipping Center to SiteUnited Parcel Service, Atlanta, this week began giving its users direct access to its shipping options through the eBay Web site.
This agreement represents the first time a transportation company has established a shipping center in an e-marketplace.
When a buyer and seller conduct business on eBay, UPS online shipping options are now available from the eBay Web site. From their My eBay accounts, eBay members now have full access to UPS shipping tools and services, enabling them to: calculate UPS rates; arrange for package pickup; locate the nearest UPS drop-off location; determine time in transit; print a shipping label; track a package; and open a UPS account.
UPS shipping tools also can be accessed in other areas of the eBay site, such as the seller services page, the shipping/postage page and through a link to the UPS Service Center. Through these links, eBay members can complete the shipping portion of their transactions online in a single user session.
"Making UPS Online Tools readily available to eBay members helps reduce the transactional friction," said Jeff Jordan, senior vice president at eBay U.S.
The auction site has previously offered links to MailBoxes Etc. -- which offered discounts for eBay members -- and Stamps.com's iShip service. The UPS deal appears to outmaneuver those offerings by establishing a presence within the eBay site.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
