EarthLink has inked a deal to provide special discounts and benefits to AARP members via direct mail and inserts in AARP new member packages.

EarthLink said it wanted to target consumers in the 50-and-over age bracket, who it said are among the fastest-growing segment of Internet users.

AARP members will receive $2 off the standard $21.95 monthly dial-up fee for Internet access, the Internet service provider said. The standard package comes with e-mail services, a personalized Web page and up to 10 megabytes of Web space.

"Our members tell us they want technology benefits that will help them keep connected with family and friends," said Laura Rossman, director of new product services for AARP Services Inc., Washington.

AARP is an organization dedicated to serving people 50 and older.
