DTE Energy to End Residential Program in PA, NJ

DTE Energy, Detroit, a diversified energy company whose principal operating subsidiary is Detroit Edison, an electric utility serving 2.1 million customers in southeastern Michigan, announced in late February the closing of its DTE Edison America affiliate's New Jersey and Pennsylvania operations.

DTE Edison America is a deregulated energy marketing company serving residential and business customers. The closure does not affect another DTE Energy affiliate, DTE Energy Marketing, which markets electricity and related energy services to industrial, commercial and institutional customers in the same states and throughout the Great Lakes and mid-Atlantic regions where deregulation has occurred.

Jean M. Redfield, president of DTE Edison America, said, "We believe that we have learned enough to conclude that the competitive residential and small commercial mass market is not profitable in this early stage of development."
