DraftWorldwide Seals Envelope With Stamps.com

Stamps.com, Santa Monica, CA, this week selected Interpublic's $2 billion advertising unit DraftWorldwide as its new agency of record.

DraftWorldwide, Chicago, assumes immediate responsibilities for Stamps.com's advertising, marketing and branding efforts, which were formerly handled by Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, OR. However, Stamps.com will continue its affiliation with Direct Partners in Santa Monica, a direct marketing services agency that will collaborate with Draft on the company's online communications.

Stamps.com president Loren Smith said the company had realized much success over the past months with online integrated marketing and other direct-to-customer efforts, but said "we have re-evaluated our agency needs."

Stamps.com is currently the only company authorized by the USPS to offer commercially available postage over the Internet without any additional hardware being required. Other companies, including Pitney Bowes, E-stamp and NeoPost, are in various stages of negotiation with the postal service for similar approvals.

Stamps.com plans to target consumers, small offices and home businesses through partnerships with America Online, IBM, Microsoft and others.
