Draftfcb inks new client: Sharpie

Draftfcb has been named US agency of record for Newell Rubbermaid's Sharpie, Expo and Prismacolor brands.

The agency was selected following a formal RFP. Y&R Chicago, Ogilvy Chicago and Brand Buzz NY also competed in the single-round review.

“I think we bring to them a very practical understanding of their retail environment and consumer,” said Karen Sauder, managing director, Draftfcb Chicago.

Draftfcb's first campaign for the brands is slated to debut this summer, and will include digital, interactive, print, TV and retail elements.

Sauder would not reveal the size of the account, but, according to Nielsen, the spend for Sharpie alone was nearly $10 million in 2008.
