Draftfcb cuts New York staff

Draftfcb's New York office laid off 47 employees this week, citing “shifts in client spending” and a need to “better align with current client assignments” as the reason for the cuts.

The layoffs affected close to 2% of Draftfcb's US workforce, leaving 1,100 in the New York office and 2,300 nationwide. The agency said that no further layoffs have been planned in New York or any other US offices.

“It's important to note that our clients in New York are very satisfied with our work and our contributions to their business,” said Laurence Boschetto, worldwide president and COO of Draftfcb, in a statement. “We haven't lost a client here in nearly a year. In fact, several clients have given us new responsibilities. Nevertheless, there have been some shifts in client spending, and as a responsible business we have had to adjust accordingly.”

Draftfcb's client roster includes Kraft, Gerber, UnitedHealth and Fisher-Price. The New York office also recently won the 2010 US Census contract from a field of more than 130 agencies.
