DoubleClick Launches Abacus Canada, Teams With Canada Post

DoubleClick Inc., New York, announced yesterday the formation of Abacus Canada, an offshoot of its U.S. catalog cooperative database, the Abacus Alliance. The announcement was made during the Annual Catalog Conference in Orlando, FL.


The firm also announced an alliance with Canada Post Borderfree to help U.S. mailers with order fulfillment, currency conversion and customer support in Canada.


The Abacus Canada Alliance launched with over 20 U.S. mailers including Restoration Hardware and Ross-Simons.


John Spencer serves as managing director of Abacus Canada.


Canada is the eighth county in which DoubleClick's Abacus division operates along with the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Australia, France and New Zealand.


On April 25, DoubleClick said it will be acquired for $1.1 billion by Hellman & Friedman, San Francisco, in a deal expected to close in the third quarter. JMI Equity, San Diego, a venture capital firm, also will invest in the company, but that amount was not disclosed.
