DoubleClick Expands Abacus to New Zealand

DoubleClick Inc., New York, announced this week the formation of Abacus New Zealand, an offshoot of its U.S. catalog cooperative database, the Abacus Alliance.

Abacus New Zealand has signed 15 members, including DoubleDay and IMP. It will offer acquisition modeling and retention modeling to its Alliance members.

DoubleClick's Abacus division operates the Abacus Alliances for catalog companies in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Australia and France.

On April 25, DoubleClick said that it will be acquired for $1.1 billion by Hellman & Friedman, San Francisco, in a deal expected to close in the third quarter. JMI Equity, San Diego, a venture capital firm, also will invest in the company, but that amount was not disclosed.
