Domtar Inc., the third-largest maker of uncoated freesheet paper in North America, named OgilvyOne Toronto as its direct marketing agency.

OgilvyOne is to improve Domtar's DM targeting paper merchants, printers, designers and corporate end users. The agency will use direct mail and online marketing designed to boost relationships with customers.

Domtar chose OgilvyOne for its experience in business-to-business marketing with clients of similar size. The agency is part of OgilvyOne Worldwide, the direct marketing unit of WPP Group PLC's Ogilvy & Mather agency network. Toronto clients include American Express, IBM, Cisco, Cogeco Cable, AIG Assurance, DuPont, Motorola and Royal Bank of Canada.

Domtar, Montreal, makes paper for the business, commercial printing, publication, technical and specialty markets. It also produces lumber and other wood products. It has a 50 percent interest in Norampac Inc., the No. 1 Canadian producer of container board. Domtar manages about 22 million acres of forest in Canada and the United States.

The company announced, with nonprofit Nature Conservancy, in August the transfer of 10,000 Domtar acres in the Sutton Mountain Range in Quebec. About two-thirds of the range will be protected, making it the largest private protected natural area east of Alberta.

Domtar reported a net loss of $800,000 on second-quarter sales of $1 billion. It has 11,000 employees in North America.
