Direct Marketing Days in New York issued just over $3 million in grants and scholarships as part of its June meeting held at the New York Hilton Hotel.

DMDNY annually issues grants and scholarships - funded through exhibition and registration attendance fees -- to schools in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut for direct marketing curriculums and commitment to education in the area of direct marketing.

Receiving the largest grant was New York University for its master's degree program in direct marketing; it was the school's 1998 installment for a multi-year grant that had been issued previously. The school will also recognize undergraduate marketing students with the Charles K. Cavanagh Memorial Fund.

The Richard M. King annual award will be issued to an outstanding marketing student at City University of New York's Baruch College, which will also receive grants for educational programs. DMDNY also named Keuka and the Direct Marketing Club of New York as recipients of educational program grants.

Additionally, the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation received a grant to conduct a graduate student seminar.

Direct marketing gurus Don Peppers and Martha Rogers, who were recognized as the 1998 Direct Marketers of the Year, divided their $10,000 award equally between the Indiana University Kelly School of Business and Duke University Fuqua School of Business.

This year DMDNY also featured a special category with the presentation of an award to the New York City Industries for the Blind Inc., which trains individuals with limited or no vision to operate letter shop equipment and execute insertion operations and fulfillment.
