DMA's Cerasale: Bills Passed in the House to be Taken Up Next Year

Two bills that passed Monday evening in the U.S. House of Representatives drew comments yesterday from Jerry Cerasale, senior vice president for government affairs at The DMA, during the organization's Annual Catalog Conference in Orlando, FL.

The legislation that passed included the Internet Spyware Prevention Act of 2005 (I-SPY) and the Securely Protect Yourself Against Cyber Trespass Act (SPY ACT).

Cerasale said he didn't think the House bills would advance this year. However, he said the legislation would probably be taken up again next year.

"The DMA strongly believes that consumers should be in control of their computers, and we are working with marketers to promote responsible and ethical electronic communications," the statement said.
