DMA UK Teams With Environmental Charity

The Direct Marketing Association (UK) Ltd. is joining forces with the United Kingdom's leading woodland conservation charity, the Woodland Trust, to encourage improvements in the DM industry's environmental performance and to help meet the requirements of its voluntary agreement with the government.

The association made the announcement this week at the International Direct Marketing Fair, taking place at Earl's Court in London.

The effort, the DMA UK's third environmental campaign, links industry actions to a goal of planting 10,000 native trees nationwide in 2005. Actions to be encouraged by the DMA UK include:

· Use of suppression on a mailing file.

· Running MPS (Mailing Preference Service) against a mailing file.

· Agencies briefing clients on environmentally friendly solutions to DM challenges.

· Use of sustainable materials in all activities.

Environmentally friendly options open to the DM industry will be accessible via the DMA UK Web site (www.dma.org.uk/environment). Businesses will be able to indicate the actions they have taken, and the equivalent number of trees to be planted will be calculated.

Details regarding the actions the industry can take to help the DMA UK meet its tree-planting target will be announced.
