DMA to Induct Squires Into Circ Hall of Fame

The Direct Marketing Association will name John Squires as its 2003 inductee into the Circulation Hall of Fame today.


Squires, who was named executive vice president of Time Inc. in August 2002, oversees the firm's consumer marketing and interactive divisions as well as Entertainment Weekly magazine.


Before his recent appointment, Squires served as president of Entertainment Weekly since 1998. Under his leadership, the magazine had its most profitable period and reached its highest rate base since its inception in 1990.


He also held positions as senior vice president of consumer marketing for Time Inc. and vice president of consumer marketing at Sports Illustrated. He joined Time Inc. in 1989 as assistant circulation director of People magazine.


Before joining Time Inc., Squires held senior circulation positions at publications such as Forbes and American Heritage.


Squires was elected to the Audit Bureau of Circulations board of directors in November 2001.


The DMA's Circulation Council formally inducts Squires at a Jan. 29 luncheon during its 17th annual Circulation Day conference at the Marriott Marquis, New York.


Hall of fame inductees must:


· Have at least 15 years of circulation experience.


· Be active in circulation in the United States or Canada.


· Have made "significant contributions" to the industry through breakthrough creativity and/or professional achievement.


· Have contributed toward training and educating others in the field and/or community involvement.


Past inductees include Michael Loeb, Brian Kurtz, Wendell Forbes, Henry Cowen, Robert Teufel, Robert Riordan, Jack Shurman, Richard Benson, Gordon Grossman, Kathleen O'Shaughnessey, E. Daniel Capell, John Klingel, Ruth Nelson, Ed Fones, Brian Kurtz and Chip Block.
