DMA Puts Off Orlando Show Decision

A decision on whether the Direct Marketing Association will return to Orlando, FL, for future editions of its annual fall show isn't expected until next year, a DMA spokeswoman said yesterday.


DMA officials are still considering their options on the show's return, spokeswoman Christina Duffney said. The city is a candidate for the DMA's annual convention in 2007 but is not yet part of its annual rotation, which includes Chicago, New Orleans and San Francisco.


Earlier, the DMA had said it expected a decision by the end of November. Member complaints about coverage by the Orlando Sentinel of the October DMA show at the Orange County Convention Center outside Orlando linking DMers with spammers could affect the decision. But the DMA has praised the layout of the convention center as well.


Members also complained about problems with taxis, in particular erratic cab fares. On Dec. 1, the Orlando Business Journal reported that Orange County Commission chairman Richard Crotty planned to propose rules to rein in unregulated cab drivers. The city of Orlando has cab regulations, but they do not apply in county territory outside the city limits.
