DMA Downsizes NCDM Frequency

The Direct Marketing Association said yesterday that it has done away with its Summer National Center for Database Marketing conference in favor of holding one national conference a year in the winter. Next month's NCDM is set for Dec. 12-14 at Walt Disney World Dolphin in Orlando, FL.

The move follows the DMA's decision last December to discontinue its annual net.marketing conference.

This summer's NCDM was in Chicago and competed with an ad:tech show there. Though the database industry has seen much growth in recent years, the summer conference has not.

The NCDM conference, which is put on by the DMA in conjunction with Primedia Business Exhibitions and Direct magazine, has been held twice annually for many years, but the marketplace dictated that one show was enough, according to the DMA.

"We can better service attendees and exhibitors by merging the two conferences," Anne Schaeffer, DMA senior vice president of education and events, said in a statement. "We can now focus our energies on growing the event to provide our customers with a better experience."
