Discover Launches Educators Card for Teachers

Discover Financial Services, Riverwoods, IL, has debuted an advertising campaign targeting school teachers, principals and others involved in the education process with its new Discover Educators Card.

A direct mail campaign, created in conjunction with the Townsend Agency, Rosemont, IL, dropped last month, with additional mailings expected to continue this month. A Discover spokeswoman declined to disclose information about the campaign, other than to say that the company is testing two versions of the mailer.

The credit card offers 5 percent cash-back services from a variety of merchant partners and benefits, including no annual fee and low interest rates. Merchant partners involved at the launch include hotel operator Ramada Franchise Systems Inc., Parsippany, NJ, and mulitimedia educational superstore Zany Brainy Inc., King of Prussia, PA.

"Supporting the Discover Educators Card allows us to help teachers who frequently use their own money for classroom supplies," Tom Vellios, president of Zany Brainy, said in a prepared statement.

In addition, Discover Financial Services will donate a portion of each Discover Educators Card transaction to Communities in Schools, Alexandria, VA, an organization that seeks to help at-risk students.
