GameStop plans revamped loyalty program, expanded downloadable offerings

Video game retailer GameStop will begin testing a revamped loyalty program in May. It will also expand its downloadable offerings, according to its March 18 earnings call for the fourth quarter of 2009. Paul Raines, COO of GameStop, said on the call that the retailer plans to incorporate elements of the MegaCard loyalty program by Micromania, a French video game retailer GameStop bought in 2008.
 

Zappos.com uses puppets to promote customer service work

Online footwear and apparel retailer Zappos.com launched an advertising campaign on March 18 using puppets to promote its approach to customer service. The year-long effort, called "Zappets," was created by Boston ad agency Mullen.
 

Phillips-Van Heusen to acquire Tommy Hilfiger brand

Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation has agreed to acquire the Tommy Hilfiger brand from private equity firm Apax Partners for $3 billion. Funds advised by Apax have controlled the brand since May 2006. PVH will pay $2.2 billion in cash and $800 million in stock for the fashion brand. The deal is expected to close during this year's second quarter.
 

LL Bean debuts e-commerce site, catalog for spring collection

LL Bean launched a campaign using direct mail and social media on March 15 to promote its spring 2010 "signature" line. The retailer also introduced an e-commerce portal and catalog for the collection on the same day.
 

Staples kicks off b-to-b site

The company's goal is to meet corporate demands for supplier consolidation and reduced procurement costs. Managed by the company's business-to-business division, Staples Advantage, the site also features the offerings of its five recently announced business-to-business segments.
