Worldcolor to eliminate 200 jobs in plant consolidation

Direct mail product manufacturer Worldcolor will cut about 200 positions by the end of March in an effort to consolidate its Toronto-area magazine, catalog and in-line direct mail operations into one facility.

The company said January 18 that it will transfer operations from one Ontario facility to another as part of the initiative, which it is conducting to enhance customer service and improve efficiency, according to a company statement. The combined facility will produce magazines, catalogs, retail inserts and inline direct mail products for publishers and retailers. The combination will result in the creation of 50 jobs at the Aurora, Ontario plant.

A Worldcolor representative could not be immediately reached for comment. However, Regis Rehel, president of Worldcolor Canada, said in a statement that the plan will enable the company to “reduce [its] cost structure improving service.”

Quebecor World changed its name to Worldcolor last year, when it emerged from bankruptcy protection in the US and Canada. It bought World Color Press in 1999 for $2.7 billion.
