Citing improving the value of mail for their mutual customers, the U.S. Postal Service signed an agreement this week with the State Post Bureau of the People's Republic of China to enhance mutual cooperation between the two agencies.

According to the USPS, the agreement -- signed by Postmasters General William J. Henderson of the United States and Liu Liqing of China -- continues the agency's and China Post's continuing efforts to jointly develop new international services to meet the changing needs of their customers. China is one of the USPS' largest markets for international mail.

The agreement covers a full range of subjects, including business development; financial management; training and management development; and best practices on the processing, transportation and delivery of mail.

This agreement comes on the heels of Monday's landmark announcement that China will be entered into the World Trade Organization. This move ultimately opens China's economy-- the world's most populous nation with 1.3 billion people--to foreign competitors and also makes it a full partner in the world's trading system.
