USPS Plans Another Co-Palletization Test

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Postal Service's Board of Governors approved an experimental co-palletization filing this week designed to benefit heavy, high-editorial-content journals with a national scope.

Steve Kearney, vice president of pricing and classification at the USPS, informed attendees to the Mailers Technical Advisory Committee meeting Feb. 4 at postal headquarters here.

The test will meet the needs of mailers who were ineligible to use the co-palletization test that went into effect last year, Kearney said. That test, which lets mailers of small-circulation periodicals achieve the work-sharing discounts enjoyed by large mailers, is doing well, postal officials say.

In a few weeks, the USPS will file a proposal about this with the Postal Rate Commission, Kearney said. Further details were unavailable.
