The U.S. Postal Service appointed 14 industry experts to its new Remittance Mail Advisory Committee to offer suggestions on improving its business and operational alignment with the remittance industry.

Remittance mail is the segment of First-Class mail made up of payments typically enclosed in courtesy reply envelopes. When combined with the outgoing bills and statements, bill and remittance mail accounts for an estimated 50 billion pieces of mail, 49 percent of items sent First Class, the USPS said.

Each committee member has expertise in remittance processing and operations. Charles Kelly, wholesale remittance manager at Wausau Financial Systems, Mosinee, WI, will serve as chairman.

Other members: Kitty Turner, division manager of remittance mail, AllState Insurance, Hudson, OH; Cliff Whittle, director of billing and payment services, American Express, Weston, FL; Les Young, vice president, Bank of America, San Francisco; Don Gagne, director of remittance processing, Discover Financial Services, Riverwoods, IL; Steve Nugent, vice president of remittance operations, Mellon Global Financial, Pittsburgh; Mark Stevens, CEO, OPEX Corp., Moorestown, NJ; Charles Gunn, manager of remittance operations, PECO Energy, and Loretta Rosso, director of payment processing, Comcast Cable, Philadelphia; Lex Litton, vice president, Phoenix Hecht, Research Triangle Park, NC; Robert Craig, senior vice president, REMITCO, Wilmington, DE; Dana Gould, vice president, Association for Work Processing Improvement, Boston; Joan Argentino, remittance manager, Verizon, Cockeysville, MD; and Lynn McBride, remittance operations manager, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Minneapolis.
