Postal Reform Bills to Be Introduced Soon
House Government Reform Committee chairman Tom Davis, R-VA, and Senate Governmental Affairs Committee chairwoman Susan Collins, R-ME, originally planned to introduce postal legislation by the end of April.
Rob White, a spokesman for the Government Reform Committee, said that Davis's bill will "most likely be introduced [the week of May 3], and we are still planning to mark up the bill on May 6."
Andrea Hofelich, a spokeswoman for Collins, said that Collins and Sen. Thomas Carper, D-DE, "are still on track with legislation to reform the postal service and are planning to introduce legislation soon, most likely [next week]."
Hofelich noted that Collins said Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-TN, told her that postal change is a priority for the rest of the session.
