Pitney Bowes launches list management platform for small businesses

Pitney Bowes launched an online list management service for organizations that use direct mail infrequently, or send only small volumes of it, on November 30.

The company's goal for the platform, called AddressRightNow, is to eliminate inaccurate addresses and to update mailing lists based on US Postal Service change of address information.

Pitney hopes that the service will allow it to both retain existing customers and attract new ones, said Jeff Platt, director of solutions marketing for US mailing at Pitney.

“There are great options for large mailers, but what is missing are options for small mailers or infrequent mailers – think of a church or a school or a local store,” he said.

The service will help mailers meet US Postal Service standards for updating mailing lists, according to Jeff Platt, director of solutions marketing for US mailing at Pitney. Those updates must be applied 95 days before the mailing. As of January 4, 2010, mailers that do not do so will be subject to additional postage of 7 cents per assessed piece.

The platform can also confirm whether or not an address is deliverable, convert rural style addresses to city style and allow mailers to fix errors via the Web.

Address verification services start at $40 for up to 1,000 addresses, while move update services begin at $60 for up to 1,000 addresses, according to Pitney's AddressRightNow microsite.

The platform allows mailers to upload their lists to a Pitney Web site, where they can be scanned for issues that lead to undeliverable mail. For instance, the service can let clients know if anyone on their lists has moved, and then provide them with consumers' new addresses. The service also has auto-matching capabilities.
