Newspapers partner with online real estate site

Real estate Web site has partnered with 11 newspaper groups to place local newspaper listings online.

The partnership, which will go into effect in 2008, encompasses 282 newspapers from publishers such as Hearst Newspapers, the Journal Register Company and the E.W. Scripps Company, among others.

Advertisers in the local papers' real estate pages can opt to have their listings and open house ads placed on Zillow. Member papers can use Zillow technology to add rich content and value trend information to their home sites.

With circulation dropping for many newspapers, online partnerships help publishers bolster ad opportunities.

Many of the newspapers in the Zillow partnership are also members of the year-old Yahoo ad consortium, which posts local newspaper ads online. Membership in the Yahoo partnership has tripled since its launch last November, and Zillow is also expected to gain partners over the next few months.

“The result will be a compelling value proposition for advertisers and online users, which we believe will provide long-term opportunities for revenue growth,” Gregory P. Schermer, VP for interactive media at Zillow partner Lee Enterprises, said in a statement.
Zillow is headquartered in Seattle. The site reports 4 million unique visitors every month.
