McGraw-Hill Education, a division of McGraw-Hill Cos., has bought British social science publisher Open University Press for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition is intended for McGraw-Hill Education to expand its print and online products in the growing social sciences area in Britain and the rest of Europe.

Open University Press has a list of 800 titles on education, sociology, psychology, health and social welfare. It was founded in 1977.

As part of the deal, McGraw-Hill will keep the Open University Press imprint and office in Buckingham, England. However, distribution will be integrated into McGraw-Hill Education's Maidenhead, England, facility.

McGraw-Hill Education publishes textbooks for economics, business, engineering and computer science courses. McGraw-Hill Cos. owns brands such as Standard & Poor's and BusinessWeek. Sales last year totaled $4.6 billion.
