Google Inks 3 Distribution Deals

Google struck separate deals with AOL Latin America, InfoSpace and RealNetworks to expand the distribution of its paid search listings.

Google yesterday said it reached an agreement with AOL Latin America to display its paid listings on AOL sites in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Puerto Rico. Google already provided Web search technology to AOL Latin America. AOL is a longtime partner of Google in the United States. In May 2002, it became the first major distribution partner for Google's paid advertising links.

Also yesterday, InfoSpace said it renewed its deal to use Google's paid listings and algorithmic search on its search sites, including Dogpile and MetaCrawler, through 2006. The companies struck the original distribution agreement in September 2002.

As metasearch engines, Dogpile and MetaCrawler offer search results from multiple search providers including Google competitors like Yahoo's Overture Services.

Google announced a pact with RealNetworks on Tuesday to include its popular search toolbar with downloads of the RealPlayer 10 software, a free media player. When users download RealPlayer 10, they will have an option to include the Google Toolbar, which sits on the top of a browser and lets users do searches without visiting the Google Web site.

Search engines have pushed toolbars to users in the hopes of making search the key application of consumers' Internet experience, no matter what site they are visiting. In November, Google introduced the Google Deskbar, a search application that resides on the Windows taskbar at the bottom of the computer screen and lets users search without opening an Internet browser.

Google did not release terms of the three deals.
