FedEx Ground Expanding FedEx Home Delivery Service

FedEx Ground said yesterday that it would open 63 additional FedEx Home Delivery terminals nationwide to expand the service's reach to 80 percent of the U.S. population.


Started in March 2000, FedEx Home Delivery is a ground service dedicated exclusively to residential delivery and the first to offer a money-back guarantee. The service also offers standard evening and Saturday delivery and premium options such as day-specific and guaranteed appointment.


In June 2000, FedEx Ground announced an accelerated expansion plan to achieve full U.S. coverage by September 2002. In the first phase of the expansion in February, FedEx Ground opened 85 FedEx Home Delivery terminals, increasing the service's reach to 70 percent of the population. By February 2000, 90 percent will be served.


FedEx Ground will co-locate 56 of the new Home Delivery terminals with existing FedEx Ground facilities to optimize its network.


After this latest expansion, FedEx Ground will have a network of 584 distribution hubs and local pickup-and-delivery terminals throughout the United States and Canada. The company reported annual revenue of $2.2 billion in fiscal year 2001.

"Since its inception, FedEx Home Delivery volumes have steadily grown, and we expect them to continue to grow significantly over the next year as a result of the service's ability to serve a larger segment of the market with its unmatched features and superior service."


More than 8,000 shippers have signed on for the service.
