Twitter outage could have held up campaigns

With Twitter experiencing its second major breakdown yesterday after a spam attack made the social networking site either move slowly or not at all with what is being called the "denial of service attack." This comes after the social site was put in a compromising situation a couple of weeks back when an employee's e-mail account was hacked and proprietary information about some of the company's plans got leaked.

While Twitter is probably not the core to any online marketer's efforts, a presence on the social site has been key in connecting with fans online. It has also been the site to experiment in the way of social media campaigns and viral efforts, so an outage is not good, especially for those marketers and agencies who have been planning their creative around the site. It would have been a bummer for a retail store that used Twitter to promote a one day in-store sale. But then again, the Facebook posts and the e-mails would have probably still driven the traffic. Because after all, Twitter is just one outlet in the mix of online and social media channels.
